Segments

One of the main features of Distil is the ability to divide customers who share matching attributes into discrete groups called Segments.

The size and value of these Segments can be monitored within Distil. Each Segment’s customer records can also be dynamically synced into Distil Integration destinations.

This section explains how Segments are defined and built within Distil.

There are two different types of Segments, Private Segments and Shared Segments. The main difference between these is that Private Segments can only be viewed by the user who created them, whereas Shared Segments can be seen by any user who is signed in to your Distil account. Another important difference is that only Shared Segments can be used to sync with a Distil Integration

Segments can be viewed within Distil on the Customers screen by selecting Segments at the top of the screen (the view is opened by default when the Customers screen is opened). The Segments are listed on the left side of the screen, where the Segment type (Private or Shared), the sync status, the current number of customers, as well as the 30 day change in customer count and Segment value can be seen for each Segment. The list of Segments can be sorted or filtered using the controls above the Segment list.

A default Segment called All Customers is already pre-configured with Distil, which, as the name suggests, contains all Customers who have been loaded into Distil.

When a Segment is selected from the list the details for that Segment are displayed in the Analytics and Data panels adjacent to the list of Segments.
